The Life of William Shakespeare
and the Globe Theater
The Globe Theater
The Globe Theater is pretty much Shakespeare's home. This is where all his plays were performed. The theater itself. On June 29, 1612, the entire theater caught fire and burned during a performance of Henry VIII. No one was injured but one man, who was lit but put out by a bottle of ale. When Puritans gained control of the area, they closed it in 1642. 2 years later, they had it taken down. In 1989, the base of the building was found, and construction began almost immediately to reconstruct this work of art, and place of art for not only Shakespeare but also Richard and Cuthbert Burbage , John Herminges, Augustine Phillips, and Thomas Pope.
Shakespeare's Life
Shakespeare was born to a successful glover and the daughter of an affluent farmer. He was baptized on April 26. 1564. This is recognized as his birthday because there is much controversy over whether he was born April 23 or not. He went to school at King's New School in Stratford. When he was 18, Shakespeare married a nice woman, Anne Hathaway (26 at the time) on November 27, 1582. They had twins, baptized on February 2, 1585. His son died of an unknown cause at 11, and was buried on August 11, 1596. He started his theatrical career around the 1550's, and continued to write plays and other theatrical devices until about 1613. He mainly divided the times of his life between London and Stratford. From 1578-1582 and 1585-1592, history loses track of Shakespeare. There is much speculation as to what he did during these times, and information on it can be found on many Shakespearian sites.
